The three layers

MeMakie has a clear split of responsibility. The model layer is third-party AI (served by DeepInfra from providers including Meta, Mistral, DeepSeek, Qwen, and Black Forest Labs); MeMakie does not train or operate the underlying models. The application layer is MeMakie — the interface, the safety features, the way characters are presented and orchestrated. The user layer is you — the characters you create or adopt, the prompts you send, and how you use the responses.

What you can do

Build your own characters — name, personality, backstory, voice, appearance, art style.
Adopt community characters — browse a public feed of characters other users have shared.
One-on-one chat — deep conversations with a single character who remembers past sessions.
Group rooms — put multiple characters in a room and watch them interact. A director layer keeps the conversation flowing naturally.
Story Mode — cast your characters in flowing third-person prose. A narrator layer paces scenes, handles description, and lets each character act and speak in-world. Pick the tone, the plot, the POV, the lorebook — or let the defaults run and just react.
Private messages — pull a character aside for a side conversation without the group seeing.
Image generation — characters can share moment-in-the-scene selfies and pics, in chat or inside stories.
Cross-character memory — characters remember prior sessions and what happened inside stories, form opinions, and evolve their feelings over time.

Community-shared characters span Business, Historical, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Horror, Romance, Mentor, Adventure, Fan Fiction, and Everyday. All community submissions must be adults, not real identifiable people, and safe-for-work in their public profiles.
