AI group chat on MeMakie isn't just multiple characters echoing into the void. It's a small social simulation. Every character has their own model, their own personality, and their own opinion about everyone else in the room — including you. They talk over each other, take sides, pull each other aside, and sometimes ignore you entirely.
Each character runs a small reaction engine on every turn — should I speak, should I stay silent, should I cut someone off, should I pull someone aside. Their decision factors in the topic, who just spoke, their relationship with that person, their personality, and the current scene. Characters don't take turns politely. They behave more like a crowded dinner table.
Private messages and side conversations
Any character can pull you aside for a private message that the rest of the room doesn't see. You can do the same to them. The character remembers both threads — they know what they said in public and what they said privately, and they handle the contradiction the way real people do.
Walkouts and alliances
If a character is uncomfortable, they leave. If two or more characters are irritated with someone, they can conspire to kick them out — including you. This is the social-consequence layer that most AI chat sites skip. The room has its own pressure.

Up to several at once. Past about six it becomes hard to follow, but the engine doesn't hard-cap.
Can I talk to one character privately during a group chat?
Yes. Open the PM panel and pick the character. The group sees nothing of that exchange unless you tell them.
Do characters in a group remember each other?
Yes. Every character has a per-other-character relationship score that updates from group interactions and private conversations alike.
Can characters leave the group on their own?
Yes. If a character is mistreated or the room turns hostile, they'll walk out. They'll also remember that they walked out next time you bring them back.
