Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

MeMakie is an 18+ platform for conversations with AI characters. MeMakie is the application and interface layer — we do not train or operate the underlying AI models. The models are provided by third parties (see Section 4). This policy covers the data that MeMakie itself collects and processes.

2. What We Collect

• Email address — when you sign in via magic link.
• Date of birth — collected at signup to verify age (18+) and to derive the stored age tier. Used for age assurance and never shared with advertisers.
• Consent record — a timestamp indicating you read and accepted these Terms and this Privacy Policy at signup.
• Character data — characters you create or adopt, including names, personalities, appearances, and generated avatar images.
• Conversation data — chat transcripts, including PM thread text, may be stored in your account so you can reopen recent chats and bookmarks. These transcripts are also processed to extract character memories and relationship updates.
• Character memories — compressed summaries of past conversations, stored to enable character continuity.
• Relationship data — how each of your characters feels about each participant they've spoken with, updated after conversations.
• Usage data — basic server logs including IP addresses for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and security. Per-request logs track which API endpoint was called, which model was used, token counts, and coin cost.

3. How We Use Your Data

• Character continuity — memories and relationships are used to make characters remember past interactions.
• Age assurance — stored age tier gates access; raw DOB is used only to derive the tier and is not used for marketing.
• Service operation — authentication, rate limiting, safety, abuse prevention.
• Product improvement — understanding aggregate usage patterns to make the platform better.

4. Third-Party Services

MeMakie is built on third-party services. We do not train or operate these systems; we license them to provide the MeMakie experience.

• DeepInfra — AI inference for character responses and image generation. When a character speaks, your prompt text is sent to DeepInfra's API for processing. Models served include Meta Llama, Mistral, DeepSeek, Qwen, Black Forest Labs (FLUX), and others. DeepInfra does not retain or train on your data. Their privacy policy.
• SMTP2GO — email delivery for magic link sign-in. Only your email address is shared.
• Stripe — payment processing for coin purchases, when applicable. Stripe handles payment card data directly; MeMakie never stores full card numbers. Stripe also provides identity verification for sustained-access age assurance when used.
• Cloudflare — DNS, CDN, and DDoS protection. Standard web traffic data.
• Google Analytics (GA4) — aggregate site traffic and usage metrics. Can be blocked via standard browser privacy tools.

5. What We Do NOT Do

• We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
• We do not share your personal data with advertisers.
• We do not use your conversations to train AI models.
• We do not read your private conversations unless investigating a reported abuse case.
• We do not collect data from minors. If we learn that someone under 18 has created an account, that account will be terminated and the data deleted.

6. Data Storage

• Server-side — character data, recent chat history, bookmarks, derived memories, and relationships are stored in a SQLite database on our server for signed-in users.
• Client-side — character data is mirrored in your browser's IndexedDB for offline access and fast loading.
• Temporary browser recovery — if you start a conversation while anonymous and then sign in, we may temporarily keep a recovery copy of that current chat in your browser so the conversation can continue after login.
• Sessions — login sessions expire after 30 days.
• Magic links — sign-in links expire after 15 minutes.

7. Data Retention

• Saved chat history — saved chats, including bookmarked chats, are kept until you delete them or delete your account.
• Shared chats — chats you deliberately share may persist until you unshare or delete them.
• Character memories — memories decay over time (older memories gradually lose weight), but the summaries themselves may remain as part of your account data until deleted.
• Account data — we retain your account data as long as your account is active, unless you delete it or ask us to delete it.

8. Your Rights

• Access — you can view your recent chat history and bookmarks from within the app, and export your character data at any time using the "Save to File" feature.
• Deletion — you can delete individual chats from History or Bookmarks, delete all your data using "Clear All Data" in Settings, or contact us for deletion. Deletion is end-to-end: account, characters, memories, relationships, saved conversations, bookmarks, and community shares originating from your account.
• Portability — your data can be exported as JSON.
• Correction — you can edit your characters, your player card, and your account details at any time from within the app.

9. Age — 18+ Only

MeMakie is an 18+ platform. The service is not directed at and not intended for minors. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that a user under 18 has created an account, the account and associated data will be deleted promptly.

10. Security

We use HTTPS encryption, secure session tokens, and rate limiting to protect your data. However, no system is perfectly secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Changes

We may update this policy at any time. The date of the last update is shown at the top of this page.
