Story Mode on MeMakie turns the same characters you chat with into a cast. A narrator layer writes the scene around them — third-person prose, your choice of tense and tone — while each character acts and speaks in-world. You can hand the pen to the narrator and just react, or steer every beat. Whatever happens inside the story carries back to chat: the characters remember.
Pick a character or a cast, flip into Story Mode, and the narrator opens the scene. Each turn the narrator paces the prose; the characters reply in their own voices; you push the story forward with a beat or a line of dialogue. Image generation drops illustrations into the prose when the scene shifts. POV, tense, tone, plot, hidden notes, and a lorebook are all editable in Setup — or use the defaults and just write.
Why it's different from "write me a story" prompts
Most AI story generators give you one model talking to itself. Story Mode runs the narrator and every character as separate voices, each with their own personality, memory, and opinions. Characters can disagree with the narrator. They can walk out of scenes. They can refuse a plot beat that breaks their character. That's the difference between a story-shaped block of text and a story you actually wrote with people.
Stories and chat share the same memory
A character who fought with you in a story remembers the fight when you go back to chatting. A character you fell for in chat brings that history into the next story. Memory is one stream — chat and story both feed it, both draw from it.

Can I write a story with multiple AI characters?
Yes. Cast as many characters as the scene needs. Each one acts and speaks in their own voice; the narrator handles description and pacing.
Do AI characters remember what happened inside a story?
Yes. Story events feed the same memory subsystem as chat. A character who got hurt in a story will hold the grudge into chat — and vice versa.
Can I steer the plot, or does the AI write everything?
Both. By default the narrator paces the scene and you react with a line or beat. Setup lets you set the plot, lock the POV and tense, write hidden author's notes, build a lorebook, and control how autonomously characters act.
